Korpius was formed in 2003 by Philippe d’Astous and Maxime Berriaut in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The search for a singer being unfruitful, both guitarists decided early on to handle the vocal dutie themselves. The mix of their guttural and high pitched vocals was soon to be one of the distinctive landmarks of the band.
After independently releasing its first demo in 2006, Korpius signed with Cryogenic Records for the release of its “Apocalyptic Vision” Ep. This signing allowed the band to play a wide range of shows in the province, from metal fests in Rouyn-Noranda (FME Festival), Lebel-sur-QuĂ©villon, St-Georges-de-Beauce to local shows in Quebec, Montreal, St-Hyacinte and their hometown; Sherbrooke. The band proved more than once that their right place is on the stage, next to metal acts such as Cryptopsy, Belphegor, Neuraxis, Krisiun, Despised Icon and many more.
The new album 'Shades of Black' is set for release on April 4th 2011 on Maple Metal Records and is the best material of the band to date. Proving their maturity with both the brutal yet progressive influences, Korpius shows on the new album that death metal can be musical while staying brutal and having that punch to your face. The wide range of songs on the album makes it a must for all extreme metal fans.
